The Virtual and Augmented (VR/AR) innovation community are working together with DigiLab and University of Manchester Research Institute (UMRI) to work on collaboration with external businesses and cross-faculty collaboration in the University.

DigiLab – VR/AR community networking with businesses

From 4 – 15 November, DigiLab is hosting a two week residency in the Main Library, showcasing all DigiLab has to offer to staff, researchers and students at The University of Manchester.

DigiLab’s aim is to help all at the University learn about technology and break down the perception that technology is ‘just for people working or studying STEM subjects’. DigiLab gives people the opportunity to test and provide feedback on new and emerging technologies or products, and can also help researchers find participants for technology based research studies.

As part of the two week event, DigiLab will be collaborating with the VR/AR Innovation Community, to focus on “VR/AR Research” theme days.

In attendance will be some VR/AR companies for people to network with, along with some short talks on the use of different technology in research across the University. This will also be an opportunity for staff and researchers to:

• Give a talk explaining their research to a wide audience of people (email ros.bell@manchester.ac.uk if interested)
• Speak to VR/AR companies that are interested in networking with researchers who are applying for technology grants
• Network with others in the University who work with / are interested in VR/AR technology
• Speak to DigiLab about using their research space, equipment and help with finding research participants

The VR/AR focused drop in days will take place on 6 and 13 November from 11am – 4pm in the Main Library. All staff and researchers interested are more than welcome to drop in at any time.

UMRI – Cross-faculty research collaboration

Paul Warren, Senior Lecturer – Division of Neuroscience and Experimental Psychology, recently led a successful UMRI application to establish a university-wide “VR @ Manchester” research network, which aims to bring together researchers who are using VR in their research and to foster and develop new cross-disciplinary collaborations and funding applications.

VR @ Manchester will also be collaborating with the VR/AR innovation community to host a workshop to build and foster cross-discipline collaborations and hopefully generate successful funding applications.

This event will take place on Wednesday 27 November from 12:30 – 4:30pm in F41, Sackville Street Building.

All members of the VR/AR innovation community have received a meeting invite for this workshop already. However, anyone interested is welcome to attend, even if you did not make the previous VR/AR innovation community events. Simply sign up via the Eventbrite link below:
