A little look back
As the end of the year comes racing towards us, it’s been a time of significant change for the Research Lifecycle Programme.
We have said goodbye to Angus Hearmon, the programme’s director since 2018. Although retiring from the University, Angus already has some exciting new projects lined up so won’t be taking it too easy just yet.
Angus’s experience has been invaluable in supporting the development of the outline business case for RLP2. The outline business case can now proceed to a full business case after having been through UoM governance structures. This will see further significant investment of £5m/ year for the next 5 years in infrastructure, products and services to support researchers and their innovative work here at The University of Manchester.
Angus’s successor as RLP’s Director is Robert Haines. He has been working closely with Angus over the last few months to ensure that the application proceeds smoothly.
Robert is also the Head of Research IT, having previously led the University’s team or Research Software Engineers. Rob is one of the originators of the term Research Software Engineer (RSE) and chaired the first conference of RSEs in 2016. He was a founding trustee of the Society of Research Software Engineering so is no stranger to innovation in research, development and processes.
All of the RLP team look forward to seeing you in the new year, to further develop and improve research support across the University.
We are happy to share with you some of the deliverables of the RLP in the past 4 years.
Merry Christmas and a happy new year, Kamie and the team.
