What has been learned from RLP?
The continuation of The Research Lifecycle Programme will see a number of important changes to how it is governed and operates.
These changes are based on feedback from within the project, from the Strategic Change Office (SCO), other stakeholders across the University and scoping and engagement exercises undertaken ahead of RLP2.
At the highest level the Programme Board will stay broadly the same with input from the SCO, Research IT’s Strategic Change Management Board and an Academic Advisory Group.
Instead of utilising narrow workstreams that contain individual projects, the new iteration of RLP will have six overarching themes.
- Researcher Experience
- Open, Reproducible and Responsible research
- Computing Infrastructure
- Skills and workforce Development
- Research Funding Lifecycle
- Collaboration and Partnerships
Each of these themes will be led by an academic sponsor whose time will be bought out by the project. This will ensure that they are able to engage with the wider research community and advocate for both the theme and wider Programme. It is anticipated that there will be two academics from each of the University’s schools.
We recognise that the Research Lifecycle Programme will need to work closely with research and professional services colleagues to ensure that that staff engage with the programme, and maximise the value of the University’s investment.
In addition to investing and developing in the University’s research support functions, the Programme will help researchers to develop new skills that further support the University’s research environment – An emerging theme in the research Excellence Framework.
